Kasane
BOTSWANA
Kasane is a town shaped by rivers, wildlife, and quiet crossings. Located at the meeting point of the Chobe and Zambezi rivers in northern Botswana, it serves as a gateway to Chobe National Park and the border zones of four countries—Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Start at the riverfront, where boat safaris glide past elephants, hippos, and crocodiles. The Chobe River draws animals year-round, especially during the dry season when herds gather at the water’s edge. Game drives into Chobe National Park reveal dense populations of elephants, antelope, and predators moving through woodland and savanna. Kasane is compact but well-connected. The Train Cemetery offers a quiet glimpse into colonial-era transport, while the local market sells woven baskets, beaded jewelry, and traditional fabrics. Restaurants serve fresh fish from the river and dishes like seswaa, Botswana’s slow-cooked meat stew. From Kasane, day trips reach Victoria Falls, just across the border, or explore the wetlands of the Caprivi Strip. The town’s small airport links travelers to other parts of Botswana and southern Africa, making it a hub for regional exploration.

Maun
BOTSWANA
Maun is a town shaped by water, wildlife, and quiet transitions. Located on the southern edge of the Okavango Delta, it serves as Botswana’s main gateway to one of Africa’s most remarkable ecosystems—a vast inland wetland fed by seasonal floods. Life in Maun moves between tradition and travel. Cattle still wander through roundabouts, and local markets sell baskets, beadwork, and dried fish. At the same time, safari trucks, bush planes, and lodges connect the town to the delta’s remote camps and game reserves. The Thamalakane River runs through the town, offering sunset views and mokoro (dugout canoe) trips into the reeds. From Maun, travelers head into the Moremi Game Reserve, where elephants, lions, and lechwe roam across floodplains and woodlands. Scenic flights reveal the delta’s shifting channels and islands, while multi-day safaris explore deeper into the wetlands. In the dry season, wildlife gathers around shrinking water sources; in the green season, birds arrive and the landscape turns lush.
